What fly do you like for juvenile tarpon, dirty water about 2-3' deep?

What size juvies are you fishing? The best answer will depend on their size... At Flamingo, targetting fish up to about 20lbs it's hard to beat a small popper or a Crystal Schminnow in a size #4 or #2..... Here are some pics of what we use whenever we're working them. The popper, a Speedbug, is tied up on a #1 hook...

All of the above are for daytime fshing - at night in Biscayne Bay we use a different bug entirely....

I have always had success with EP flies (pinfish, mullet, black/purple) in the same water depth and conditions.

Very nice Capt. Bob. When do you guide in Flamingo? Remember you do not at certain times.

I'm there year 'round (but as we move into summer my customer's get fewer and fewer). The fishing in summer just keeps getting better and better (this is the beginning of the baby tarpon season for me and they'll be strong until the end of October). Of course the babies range from two or three pounds up to 60lbs... An angler has to be pretty tough to enjoy fishing during summer given the bugs, rain and thunder storms, etc. -you're definitely "jungle fishing".

I use a more darker fly with rabbit for the tail it action but it is trial and error before you find size and color combo that they will eat.

Small black or white gurglers work well too.
