I just pulled data from FWC site for permits. Here is a link to the data. http://alligator-hunting-equipment.com/fl2014tagsphase2.html

I noticed as usual there is about 1/3 still available. As usual permits that we tried for are all still there. Many people were going to put in many people in phase 2 that were not going to purchase so that good permits would go to phase and be available for $69.

They already are. Go to https://license.myfwc.com/Customer/InternetCustomerLookup and click on "Permit Available", select Statewide Alligator" and go from there.

Yea I checked the other day and there was about a 20% kick back on the tags I'm trying to get

The $69.00 price has nothing to do with the phase.

Additional tags are $69.00 after you have purchased an alligator trapping license which is purchased with your first set of tags.

Phase 2 is another random draw for those that still have no permits. There are people who are going to fill areas with applicants that do not want the permit so that the permit will be available in phase 3. In phase 3 you can duke it out to try to get one. If it is your first one you still have to pay full price. If it is extra tags then it is the $69. People with tags are trying to force good tags to be available in phase 3. If their dummy applicants get drawn then they will not claim it. They will be trying to pick them up as extras before people can get their first tags.
FWC made this change without asking for our input. Not sure they thought it all the way through.

What I think really sucks with the new phase 2 is that anyone who is unsuccessful in this phase will be competing in phase 3 with folks who already have a tag. For the life of me I don't understand this as there are going to be many permits sold in phase 3 to folks already with a permit, and they'll pay $69, versus the $272 from someone else.

That's a lot of change out of FWCs pocket. Normally I just follow the money to see why things were done, but in this case I'm stumped.

Until something is done to stop these bogus applications, things won't change. I say charge the full $272 with the phase 1 application, unsuccessful and it's refunded, successful and the permit is mailed to you. That will tell you the true demand for gator permits, not some trumped up 18000 with bogus applications.

A long time ago you had to send a payment up front. They went away from that. FWC truly beleived that they were fixing the problem of FCFS overwhelming the vendors system. They beleived that most every permit would be claimed in phase 2 and then phase 3 would be almost nothing.

After last year I asked to be included in discussions on how to address the problems. There are many things that can be considered. No meeting, no option for public input. They did not even make it obvious that the changes were made. Had people still thinking it was FCFS today.

Am I losing my mind or what? I coulda swore it has been a drawing in phase two for as long as I've been applying. Drawing in phase one, drawing in phase two for those of us that got a drew a blank (or didn't purchase which is F'd up IMHO) then FCFS in phase 3. I still say, they should either require payment in full to apply OR at least limit phase two applicants to those who weren't successful in phase one. Allowing people who applied, got drawn and didn't purchase to reapply in phase 2 is the dumbest sh** ever.

They thought they would fix the problem of the FCFS hickups in phase 2 by making it random draw. No real communication on their part. They did not like all the complaints that they were having about the system. Personally I can handle system overload better than poor decisions. Why would you put in place a system where people can get great extras before someone can get their first tags? I guess it will be fixed if it goes recreational and we can not sell the gators.

I don't see enough money in selling them to cover any of the expense. Money spent gator hunting is recreational entertainment experiences.

Killing 2 decent gators easily covers your tag fees and a good chunk of gas money

I agree completely, i was just simply saying that it's inaccurate to say selling gators doesn't cover any expense.

Didn't like the complaints about the system, so cover up the problem, don't address it? Nice. The company should be fired and a new one that can handle the traffic should be hired, pretty simple. They know there's deer FCFS return quotas that are gonna test the system again this year, why not make it right?

BTW, they changed the wording about Phase 2 last week on the website to say it was only open to those who were "unsuccessful" in Phase 1, now it is not worded that way on the website. If you were successful in Phase 1 and didn't buy the tags, you CAN apply in Phase 2. I know this 100%. They probably just changed the wording to stop getting emails, so I'll send them another
