I have one on my 8wt. Very nice looking and smooth but have yet to put it to a real test. Plenty of drag and I like the larger drag knob better than my other reels. Just found out too that they have discounts for military AND vets. Hmmm, maybe looking at adding another to the arsenal.

Oh and their customer service is top notch. They came to me 2 or so months after I purchased a reel just to check in and make sure everything was good with the reel and if I have put it to the test.

Is the drag comparable to a Tibor?

I have a kraken and an Everglades. The drag on the Tibor starts up smoother. It is also more adjustable. I haven't had a fish too strong for either reel, though.

I like owning the Tibor. It looks and sounds cool and, according to its reputation, it should last forever. But on any given day, I could care less if I'm fishing with the Allen or the Tibor.

I find it very difficult to compare a Kraken reel that cost about $100 to an Tibor for whatever price......Just wait till you try and sell that Kraken...and the guy on the other end might say "what kind of reel??...The Tibor is a reel that is just a good investment, like Money in the bank....and there isn't ANY comparison in performance.....unless you want to compare a RR to a VW...My 2 cents

PS The Kraken is probably a great entry level reel.

I've got two Tibors, an Everglades and a Riptide. Life long reels of immeasurable quality no doubt.

On the freshwater side I am a dedicated Ross user.

My question in the OP was regarding a second or a back-up reel, if you will, in an 8/9 size.

I am confident it will be right for that. I just ordered it.
