I spoke with a marine biologist the other day when I was on the water and he thinks the number of huge trout this year is due to the fact that they are eating all the smaller trout. Grass beds dying off means less food and the trout are cannibalizing the smaller ones?
I hate to say it.....but it is well known that in a declining habitat situation...the largest (best predators) are the last to go.
Add in the fact that after trout eggs hatch...they hide in the grass for 6 to 8 weeks and then start "schooling" behavior that continues up to age 5 years
(18 inches).... No grass means..what?

Looks like we'll never get a break: Record cold snaps, fertilizer runoff, disappearing sea grass, overflowing septic systems leaching crap into the lagoon, toxic sludge dredging, Okeechobee releases and algae blooms and now hordes of large mutant canibalistic trout!
