There's nothing that says you can't. It's a DOT regulation, so yes you can. If pinellas or tpd ask you to leave I would, but there's nothing they can technically site you for. Skyway is a different story it's posted with Coast Gaurd numbers.

It might be considered trespassing. You are not allowed to tie up so I would think you are not allowed to climb either.

I'm not trying to argue are start a bug debate, but Gandy you can tie up it's not posted therefor there's not a violation. Skyway it's posted, there's no city, county ordinance that's posted, there no state law that states it's unlawful to tie off or stand on a bridge. The skyway is posted as federal. Again if asked to get off I would get off.

If someone could call DOT and see what they would say I would be interested, again not trying to be a know it all, just looking at it from an LEO enforcement angle. Is there a posted sign that you can site someone on? I don't see any, to write a ticket as a LEO you will have to have a posted law , ie. county ordinance 123xyz...

Just because it's posted does not mean that it's OK. We have asked plenty of people while on patrol to get off teh bridge pilings or to untie from the bridge pilings. Plenty of Bridegs down in Miami that do not have a sign posted. After 9/11 everything changed.

It has never been legal to tie off to a bridge piling.

I cannot find any such law but it is almost impossible to find some of these laws, it does state specifically that you cannot tie off to markers but that is different. I have done it many times and have had the FWC officer tell me it is not allowed. I have never been arrested or ticketed for it I just untied and anchored up. Just saying that if you tie up to the bridge the FWC officer will tell you to get off of it.

The FWC will always say "ignorance is no excuse" don't do it.
