Took my Dad offshore on his birthday

Yep, my dad has always been an outdoors-man. Hunted and fished all his life until he retired down here in Florida 5 years ago. He had his 85th birthday on Monday so I asked if he would be up to an offshore trip. I don't think he has ever layed into a grouper, but he said "Ya!". The guy still has some snap in him, he has slowed down, but after a couple of expletive deleted with his first few shorts, he really got into it. We ended up with 4 keeper red grouper and quite a few shorts, along with a few snapper. Most were jigged up, but since the wind was 'against the tide', we also picked some up on live baits we had sabikied up. We weren't even back to the dock when my dad was planning the next trip. I've been asking him to go a lot, but he has always had an excuse why he couldn't go so i started to think he wasn't up to it. Now I bet he will be eager, go figure.

Awesome! What a great day - I hope I'm reeling in slot grouper when I'm 85! How far offshore did you go?

Not far, maybe 15 miles. the fish aren't huge there, but many legal size. Was 'live bottom' with soft corals, etc.
