Dome houses off Marco

My western border is usually a line between white horse and pumpkin bay, but the other day i found myself off cape Romano and stopped to look at the old dome houses out there. I have seen them before and we used those as a backdrop for the best boat shootout. What's the story on those things? My customers asked me and I really didn't know much. Thanks gents
