In my approx. 25 years of adult employment I have had people reporting to me over 21 years. Given the choice between two jobs, one with direct reports and one without I would choose the one without reports.

So funny you say this. I have been a boss for 22 years for around 40'sih employees, my brother and I split the duties. I can't tell you how many young people beg to manage people and how many older say they don't want to manage people.

If you work for someone else you are not a boss, you are a manager.The best time in my 43 year career was the three years I was a manager for another company. Once you are the owner and have to write the checks the fun is over.

Generally if you forget that the customer is (within reason) the boss, then you are toast.

For those WHO ARE UNREASONABLE you will then become the busiest business in town so far as doing anything new for them.

Boss is just another way of saying you are responsible for more chit. Owner is another way of saying you are responsible for everything.
The end of the day both of the above have to answer to someone else, whether it be customers or bill collectors.
There are many a day that I wish I was still just a mechanic.

I'm a manager and I like it that way. Have no desire to be the BOSS/OWNER, to be honest it terrifies me and I like leaving all the worries of being the "owner" to the owner. I enjoy too much just cashing my check and enjoying my weekends
