My bass club "Rodbenders" had our monthly tournament last Sunday. Man what a difference a few days make.
I went to pre-fish Wednesday and didn't see much bedding activity even though the water temp was 68-70 degrees. I managed a few 2 to 3 pound bass and left hoping I had found a pattern by fishing the 5' to 6' grass off the spawning flats. Come Sunday I returned to the areas I had found and got 1 decent keeper but had 2 I needed to cull and only had 4 in the well at 12:00 . :banghead
I moved to the last flat I had tried Wednesday and picked up the worm rod with a Zoom watermelon red speed worm and threw that. Water was only 4' but I thought I was seeing more beds than my last visit ?
First cast and I get bumped and put a keeper in the well. OK , finally got my limit but had 2 that needed culling.
Culled them in the next 4 casts ! All 2lb. males. I continued working the flat and kept culling. Trouble is all males and all in the 2lb range and eating everything I threw. Lots of fun but not adding to my weigh in weight.
The water had warmed up to almost 73 and the bass were moving in in waves to fan beds. I ended up with a decent bag and got 3rd place missing 2nd by 4 oz. :banghead Oh well. :wink And you know who the wink is for , don't you semi-lurker :blowkiss
Big bag was 19lb 4oz anchored with a 8lb 11oz pig. The big one ate a f-13 Rapala !
Here is a pic of the big one.
