Miami Back Country Bass Report 02/25/14

Ok folks here's our report for the week. Still plenty of Bass up near the shoreline for anglers to target. Peacock Bass and Largies too. With warm sunny days most Bass have left the deeper water, and transitioned into a spring pattern, staging in slightly shallower water. Top water anglers should try fishing on, and near the surface in the early morning and in the evening when the sun is off of the water. During the mid morning and afternoon try dropping your baits down to 6- 15' of water. The Doa terroreyz and Storm swim baits is a great lures for this, and can be fished at all depths, and around heavy structure..They can be fished fairly fast and be used to search for fish and cover water.

The weather feels like spring but the days are still a bit short for the fish to commit to shallow water. The forecast is calling for more rain and dropping temperatures. This will most likely put the bass off the bite for the next couple of days. But watch out this weekend!! Conditions will be much improved and the bite should be awesome. This is the time folks!!

I had the opportunity to take out a couple of charters last week, and finally did some fish'n too. The first trip was with a couple who came down to try out our Peacock Bass fishery. Errin and her hubby Jeff wanted to try out some real cool custom rods they had built. They figured to get in a day of Peacock Bass fishing while in town for the boat show. Both rods they brought down got a good workout on the Peacocks. Jeff actually landed a beautiful six pounder with the one he was using. Good times with good people.

My second trip was with one of my best clients. Eileen who is quickly becoming a menace to all inshore fish..lol. Said she wanted to try some of our famous winter Everglades bass fishing. Boy!! Did she pick a good day to go! Conditions couldn't be better. Two days after a cold front and one day before a full moon with partly cloudy skies. Needless to say that she tore it up. I'm pretty sure the total fish count was 42 bass up to seven pounds and a bunch of big Bluegills who thought they we're bass hitting top water plugs, and jerk baits thrown around lilypads. I actually went out a couple days later and got me a few too...But that's another story..lol
