Skyway 2-17 and 2-18

I figured I better post a report before they disable my membership here.

Met up with Long Island yesterday to test out some home made jigs. It didn't take Rich long to get a mack right away.

Bite was pretty steady and only slowed when the tide was slack. We put about 20 in the cooler by 11 am:

Went out solo this morning.

This warm weather has the macks fired up pretty good if you are looking for fish for the smoker. I've been experimenting with various jigs made of marabou and synthetics:

Frankly, I don't think it matters. Macks after all aren't very picky so don't over think the approach. Find the fish and cast fast moving bait at it. The heavier the jig, the longer you can cast and the longer it stays in the strike zone. I'm just cheap and prefer to sacrifice a 50 cents jig head rather than a $3 gotcha or an $8 plug.

I ran low on marabou material so I took a pinch of this guy's head:

Cool, I like those jigs. You tie them yourself? I've been thinking about trying to do that. What's your plan for the Macks, dip?

Yes those jigs are home made. Basically youtube how to tie crappie jig and replaced crappie jig head with the saltwater version so they don't bend so easily.

I will fillet two of them, remove red line and center bone and do this with it:

The key is hot oil so it will crisp quickly.

I then will give the other 13 fish to an unlucky friend who magically, technically illegally turn them into:

If I wanted to sell them, I wouldn't risk losing my SPL and sells them to a store or restaurant.

And if the store or restaurant are buying it from him, they are overpaying. But seriously guys, there is nothing being sold or bought here.
