I need some way to automatically copy and save all my new photos in smaller format so I can view more quickly, post on forums, and e-mail the smaller versions without having to manually adjust and save each one. Also, keeping the original high resolution copies for later. I used to do this one by one, but takes too long with these huge files from new camera.
I don't need full-blown Photoshop. I need something easy to use.
I see many such programs in Google, but which one? I looked at Batch Photo already, but open to suggestions.

Is this Light Room easy enough for a novice to not get bewildered?
cs or ps.....
it was originally intended to do what you want to do...
it also reads a bunch of different RAW files....

for your camera i wold definitely get the super zoom as soon as you can...
you'll find yourself using it a lot more than you think....
when i was shooting motocross with 35mm film, my main lens was a 50-170mm zoom...

it depends on what you're doing...
pse 9 is easier than pse 5, and i'm test driving pse 12 right now that seems more intuitive than pse 9...

Well after some time with B&H live chat and then on the phone, I was able to get the 50% off price on Light room 5. Seems that only a select group got the promo code.
Barry look at this thread I started a day or so ago. it includes the promo code.

Look at Zoner Photo Suite, it is free, is a file management function, editing and batch processing, including file resizing.
A good package for the beginner.

I did and it would not take it. The chat rep said it was for qualified purchases only. I had spent $1500 there last week so I convinced them I had made a qualified purchase.

That's what I saw also. They have some system that sends the promo codes out but I ,nor the lady I spoke with, knows how it works.
Glad you did. FedEx has mine on the way now at the good price.
I'm not sure what you mean by "large" files. The little Sony Nex 3 only has a 14 mp sensor so the files shouldn't be that large. I don't know. Always move all your images off the card to your computer at the end of a shoot. Cull the bad ones and keep the good. Work on those.
Every keeper should be worth your time to do right or you maybe should have stuck with a cheaper point and shoot. Take the time to learn photography and make every shot count. Don't display or send the garbage. You're as good as the aggregate of everything you display. After the shot processing is half the job and half of what photography has to offer as well as half the fun.
