I bought a Nikon D5100 last year and have been enjoying the camera greatly. I have always wanted to post with you guys so here goes. Be gentle i'm new at this lol.

I see you like shooting tripod stuff. I just bought a fancy lightweight expensive carbon fiber tripod. Maybe I'll start lugging it around with me. Great inspiration.
One comment. You lead with the camera model. Frankly that is just a tool. Some tools are better than others, but honestly, topic selection, composition such as angle, time of day, foreground, background and a dozen other parts, are more important in my opinion. Some of these photos show that you may have a knack for that.
So please experiment as much with that as you do the menu on your camera.
Have fun, and post as often as you can.
Maybe if we tell people that the brain is an App, they will start using it.
Shandy, I have no idea how old you are or how many shutter actuations you have shot, but I agree with Menzies, you have an eye for composition. So generally, good job and keep shooting. Now a few thoughts.
1. Next time, please number the photos. Numbering simply makes talking about the photos easier.
2. Nikon cameras are notorious for missing white balance in sodium lamps. I have a custom WB set for shooting under street lights. Please reference the one photo where the street is sort of yellow. Are you shooting *.JPG or *.NEF? Start shooting *.NEF.
3. For me the photo of the set is the two pelicans.
4. I think there was a question about post-processing software. If you need free look at Zoner Photo Suite or ****. Zoner handles NEF files fairly well.
5. The grass in front of the sign is a bit distracting. Not to be too critical but it would have been better to remove it or smash it down.
Thanks guys...I honestly have about 400 pictures taken in the last year. I am trying to take more but its hard to know if your on the right track or not. I do appreciate the feedback. It will only help to make be better.

Nice start and welcome to our world of photography. Basically, I like most of your compositions. You need to be more careful about the horizons. You have several where the water is tipping one way or another. That's just attention to detail and can be repaired after the fact. It's just tedious and so simple to get right at the time of the shot. I'm guilty of it quite a lot. Tilted horizons.

PSE = Photoshop Elements
I use PSE, only $50-100 at Best Buy or most other software retailers. Basically does almost everything I need.
