CK 4/9 Reds

After a very slow winter of fishing it appears as though we may be turning the corner. We have been doing a lot more "fishing" than actual catching the last couple months but the recent warmish weather gave us hope the fishing would improve.

We blasted off of CK at daylight with clear skies, and a stronger(colder) than expected north wind. Fishing in the morning was super slow, not much action on the near-shore flats besides flipper making a real spectacle of himself. But towards the end of the incoming tide we finally got enough water to slip in some tidal creeks and found the fish. We polled through a real skinny and narrow creek, the water was gin clear so we were able to sight cast all day long which made it all the more exciting.

After running the creek we decided to head out and hit the bars at the mouth of the creek. At this point the water was heating up and the reds were sunning in the shallows next to the bars :nono The contrast of a dark fish on a light colored bottom made them real easy targets for sight fishing. For the next hour or so we took turns netting & releasing big over slot reds, high-fiving, and generally having an awesome time. We ended up with 3 keeper reds including 2 bookend 27in tourney winners, a handful trout, and a bunch of 30+ inch over slots. :beer
