I was watching a youtube video about tying a fly pattern and the guy made a comment that "good fly tiers always leave the eye clear and don't crowd the hook eye...
I looked at my flies and shuddered. Mine are always crowded.
Don't see those same issues with the works of art posted here.
Here's a little trick I've used for years to keep tying thread in back of the hook eye... As you near the end of your tying sequence and end with a whip finish - take a moment before you trim off your thread and with the fingernails of your thumb and middle finger pinch hard down onto the front edge of your thread, right at the hookeye - as you're tightening up the thread that final time before trimming it away. Done right you can actually cause the thread to slide back away from the hook eye just a bit - giving that super clean finished appearance that we're all looking for. This is one of those things that it's easier to demonstrate than talk about - hope it helps...
I don't believe in too much flash when it comes to surf candies
Saw this clouser variation on facebook. I kind liked it and gave it a try on the vise. Pretty simple fly, I just need more colors of craft fur and lazor dub to make some cool color combos.

The heads you see on my flies serve a purpose. In most cases I tie my materials forward, then use thread to push it back. Similar to Popovic's hollow method.
Looks pretty good in the water. Needs a little bit of lead wrap on the shank to keep the head down. Tail/Tentacles dance like they're on fire when stripped. Any constructive criticism to make better?
A few Shrimp patterns- UV resin backs.
The first batch wound up hook point down. I seem to have corrected that issue w the new batch.
Having good success on it with Speckled Trout.

I'm a sucker for a good topwater hit, I don't care where I find it.
Just trying something different. I've been having fun with Trokars lately. That's a 5/0 TK13, this is a 3/0.
