imo conventional but spinners work fine i also like electric reels for the kites

Conventional are the way to go (6:1) due to the line capacity. You don't want to be at half spool or less with just the baits out.

this is the answer. spinners are great, but lack the line capacity.

Certain spinning reels are gaining the ability to kite fish with them. Penns new spinfisher 9500 can hold 300 yards of 40lb test and gains 33 inches per crank. Penn makes one size larger than that, a 10500 that holds more if needed.
