CR/Homosassa vacation rental

I was wondering if anyone might have some input on the CR/Homasassa area for vacation rentals??? For the last 5 or 6 yrs. we have gone to Horseshoe Beach to go scalloping. This past year was we had the worst luck finding them. We ended up trailering our boat to CR and had great success. So with much sadness I am going to skip HSB this year and try to stay in CR or Homasassa. We put in at the public ramp at Fort Island trail. After going out 4 or 5 times I found out that I should have been using the first ramp on that road, not the last. If anyone knows of some good areas to look for or some bad areas to stay away from that would be great. Also if anyone is familiar with the Palm Point area that would be great to. We are looking for a 2/2 or a 3/2 with a dock where we can keep the boat. Thanks in advance!

The only reason HSB and Steinhatchee didn't produce this year is because of freshwater flow due to heavy rains. It murked the whole place out but I scouted the area a month before scallop season and there were scallops there, plenty of them. It's kind of a crap shoot though, you just don't know what the rivers are going to do. I'd say Homosassa and Crystal River are both good choices. They both have stood up to a real pounding the last two scallop seasons but there were still great numbers of them from what I saw. We will see how the extended seasons change the populations of them.
