Got lucky yesterday and was able to get offshore for a little bit. The goal was to try to hit the cobia in shallow, but it seemed like everyone had the same Idea, so we left them and headed out deeper. With bait everywhere, we hit our first spot in 70 feet, fire down live sardines, sea bass and more sea bass, caught some nice vermillions too. We got back over the spot and I dropped down a dine again and BOOM! this isn't a seabass.... ended up fighting him for a few and up comes a beautiful gag! Figures season is closed:banghead. Ended up running out to about 150 on another nice spot with fish marking heavy, down goes a bait. It gets slammed and starts taking some good drag, I know what this is! Mr. Amberjack. I'm not complaining though. Right as the next bait hit the bottom I was on, Not pulling like an AJ either. Get him away from the rocks and up comes another gag! Bigger than the first! My biggest gag to date. Unhooked him, wiped away my tears, and let him go lol. I guess it is what it is, and I did enjoy the fight so I'm ok with catch and release. Not a bad few hours on the water!
