Lionfish off Haulover

Caught one yesterday while fishing in 240 feet south of Haulover. Never caught one before, are they common around here?
Cleaned and filleted him, will cook it tomorrow, any good recipes to share?

Thanks,
Len

Live pilchard on a bottom rig while drifting.
Very surprised to see it on the line. No fight to speak of, just a few head shakes on the way up.
According to some webites i found, they are VERY good eats.
Will cook em up yomorrow and let ya know... :)

great to eat from what I hear. Unfortunately we have tons of them and they are getting worse. I killed 14 while diving in key biscayne this year. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

One with size eats better then yellowtail snapper and a notch below grouper in my opinion. Nice catch

Way to help get rid of them!

    Hope to snipped the spines!

Good eats for sure, they make excellent sashimi and ceviche as well.

I think the taste and texture is near identical to Hogfish

More like a firm yellowtail. Not as tasty as hogfish. In my opinion.
I've eaten lionfish several times and they were good but not hogfish-good.

I agree I have speared lionfish and hogs on the same spot and cooked them up the same way and the hog is better, but the lionfish is still good.
