Any Suggestions for Winter Pattern fishing around Wiggins Pass area?

So now that the winter pattern has finally set in I am trying to switch up my tactics for the next month or two. Besides slowing everything down and looking for deeper holes and creeks any additional tips? I usually fish the Naples Bay and Gordon Pass area but live closer to Wiggins and the Southern part of Estero. With the weather not as nice I will try and stay closer to home where I don't have as much experience. What about the near shore reefs out of Wiggins? Any info or tips is greatly appreciated. Thanks is advance.

The near shore reefs can be good this time of year. I have caught some nice tarpon in the past in January. Also you will get bonitos, spanish and cobia. Look for crab traps, crabbers dont fish on worthless bottom. You will catch some nice grouper over the live bottom where the crabbers fish. Once the water warms closer to 70 you will get the kings around again on the local reefs and live bottom. Hope this helps.

Thanks Great info. What do you usually use for bait? I have heard of people using deep diving swim baits and trolling them over live bottom but have never done this myself. Would you use this technique around the reefs as well? I also do a lot of night fishing, any noticeable difference fishing the near shore reefs at night vs. day? Thanks.

yes I use the deep diving lures, bombers, manns, mirrolures. I like the 30's for the live bottom and if I am trying for tarpon, kings or cobia I like the 12's. They work over the reefs as well. I also like to float live sardines over the reefs. You can sabiki up cigar minnows and threads this time of year over the nearshore reefs. I dont do much night fishing so I cant answer that.
