3+lbs Frozen Grouper Fillets Feeds ???

I'm frying fish tonight for 4 Adults (2 Men/2 Women) a Hungry Teenager & a child. Is 3lbs enough fish (we're also having Fries, Corn, Salad). I hate to run out before everyone is full, but I really hate to thaw/cook too much 'cause nobody really likes it cold/leftover... My frozen portions are all ~1.5lbs except for a couple of ~3lb 'double' portions... I thought I read somewhere that ~.5lbs/fried fish/person was recommended...
There should be NO Commercial Fishing for any fish species considered 'Over-fished' , 'Undergoing Overfishing' or Subject to Recreational Seasons, Limits, or Closures... Game Fish Status IS the Answer !!!

I usually figure a half pound per person...that's 8 oz, normally plenty, especially fried. If you're worried, add some hush puppies or an easy dessert.

Good luck - sounds like a nice meal. I just made a Cajun 'chowder' out of our boil leftovers. Yum!

I'd give the kid and wife a burger and horde the Grouper for myself ... :rotflmao

Kidding, but I'd "offer eh kid" a burger instead and don't forget the baked beans ... Bush is just fine ... goes real good with the fries and corn. Potato or macaroni salad (toss a can of tuna in it also) is always a good choice instead of fries too.

We had the right amount & everyone (including the kids) loved it (& left full). It was some of the best Fried Grouper I've ever had. Red Grouper caught & vacuum sealed 8/'13 & tasted like it was caught yesterday... I wish we had maybe ~1-2 more pieces, but another ~pound would have been too much...

Happy to hear that all went well. It's nice to have feed back on a thread. :)

I've not had good luck with freezing red grouper, but I don't have a vacuum sealer either, maybe that's why.

I'm on my 2nd Vacuum Sealer & IMO they are the ONLY way to freeze fish (been using 'em for ~15yrs... I've thawed/cooked fish after ~2-3 yrs that was (almost) as good as 'fresh caught'. If you go to the 'Food Saver' Website they frequently have deals on Sealers/Bags/etc. (or check Sam's Club). I have the newer V3460 (Upright/Black/Semi-Auto) & I think it was only ~$60-$80 on Sale & it works great...

We spent the last few days making boudin and brats, more than we can eat fresh. So we borrowed a food saver from our son to try it out.

Have you tried using a food saver to freeze lobster tails? Our son said the spiny ridges poked holes in the bags. Just wondered if there is a trick to it.

It is some work but my buddy says that he cuts the spiney ridges off.

Thank you both...anxious to experiment...if we ever get enough lobster to put in the freezer again. :)
