Me n a couple friends hit the north pier (skyway) around 2pm. Heavy overcast but no rain , only 7mph winds at the tail end of an outgoing tide.. Set up shop about 30 yards north of the bait shop .The shrimp there were better than usual . Dropped them down on 30# moss green braid, 1/4 oz bullet weight free sliding to a line to line 30# mono leader. First catch was a jack , about 12" of pure muscle running in circles.couple stolen shrimp later.... Thump .... Big silver trout , my personal best at 14". The people next to me almost cried when I threw it back , lol. Got into a school of Mack's a lil later , love the way they make the reels scream. Also Got a small lane snapper & Black Sea bass. Tide changes, sun sets and temp is dropping. Bite slows down, almost off . This mangrove snapper was a nice matchup on the light tackle .

The current picked up really quick, couldn't even get a 1 oz to hold it down. Packed up and headed to the beginning of the pier in hopes of less current. Set up & caught a big lady fish. Free lined the lady fish on the big penn , no bites. Bite was off , but we still had lots of live shrimp . Decided to take the remains to gandy bridge since I live about 2 miles from it. We were on the st Pete side , south shore. Started near the boat ramp , couple strikes then goes dead, move west a bit, nothing there. Try one more spot just east of the antenna and hooked into a feisty snooklet . It was about 10 pm, and seemed like high tide. When I put the flashlight on him during revival, I was amazed how crystal clear the water was. In this pic the snooklet is almost completely submerged underwater but it's hard to tell due to the clarity.

As embarrassing as it is to admit , this was my first snook of 2013 lol. Prob because I didn't fish sept/Oct/nov this year . Oh well, but not letting that happen again. Happy new year fs !! And cheers to a tampa bay snook filled 2014 hopefully this time next year I have a boat and these are snookzilla pics not snooklets
