The Swamp was used by Louisiana-Lafayette before it was copied by UF....
Cajun Field's surface is set two feet below sea level in a natural bowl. With the below-sea level playing surface, a total of four 60 horsepower (45 kW) pumps and a sophisticated drainage system help keep the field in solid playing condition even during the frequent south Louisiana rainstorms. The subsurface stadium requires many fans to walk down to their seats. Ragin' Cajuns football players and their opponents enter Cajun Field through an underground tunnel from the UL Lafayette athletics complex.
In 1988, the stadium was nicknamed "The Swamp," as then noted on stadium signage, in the school yearbook and, a year later, in the 1989 official Southwestern Louisiana sports media guide. The characteristics which helped create the tradition of the swamp-referenced nickname are tied to the field's early 1970s construction and even refer back to the original football field for what was then the Southwestern Louisiana Industrial Institute in the early 1900s. The university's first football field was on the main campus adjacent to a small cypress pond, which later became Cypress Lake, also nicknamed The Swamp.
The Swamp nickname also fits with the area's geography, comprising many bayous and wetlands, including the Atchafalaya Basin and the nearby Gulf of Mexico marshlands. The National Wetlands Research Center, a United States Geological Survey research facility at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, is located less than a half-mile away from Cajun Field.
The other Division I FBS stadium nicknamed "The Swamp," Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at the University of Florida, did not adopt the nickname until 1991 when Steve Spurrier bestowed the nickname on the stadium.
If Florida builds a new high dollar stadium, they will forgo all away games on their schedule and only play at home... They would lose too much money/revenue otherwise.... They would also replace FSU and any SEC team ranked in the top 20 on their schedule for other competitive out of conference teams...
I heard they were going to incorporate a bunch of "classrooms" into the new stadium so they could suck educational funding out of the state. Oh, wait, there was some other school that pulled that stunt...

Why is classrooms in quotes? I took classes at University Center inside real classrooms...
Word on the street.....UF will not have a ceremony at their stadium to recognize the great accomplishments of one of their main rivals.
If by "rival" do you mean a team too chicken ***** too keep Miami on their schedule after the continued thrashing they received year in and year out?????? Or do you mean rival in a more non-traditional sense??
Well I think it is pretty cool looking. Now thinking what other In State Colleges could do.....FSU could have like a Wagon Train with arrows sticking out of them and Miami could have Seagull poop.

Help me out a little.....what was the series record between the two schools when we dropped you from our schedule?
Come toForcedSexUniversity where you can **** women for free!!!
Thanks Joe...(I knew the answer but wanted him to go find it)
Yep, the previous 6 was 3-3 tie
The previous 10 was 3-7 favoring UM
While the previous 20 was 12-8 favoring UF
Not exactly a continued thrashing they received year in and year out
Just more smack someone told him that he believes to be fact. Fail.
You're right again Red, Miami was in no way dominating Florida on the field when Florida made the decision to drop them from the schedule.... Let me see, this happened in the mid 80's, no? Who was it that was so hot back then??? I just can't recall (:cough: national champions ships in the 80's: :cough: :cough: ) I remember now, Florida dropped Miami because of revenue issues or was it they wanted to play other quality non-conference teams....
I am just glad for your sake the Gators are finally won one and are now 1-6 against the irrelevant Miami Hurricanes....

25-24 Gata but Miami had won 7 of the last 10 (before that UF had won 7 straight), now it's 28-26 Miami...
