Throw a hail mary (hello Auburn vs UGA) and hope for the best....worst case is a 100yd pick 6 or OT
Trot your freshman kicker out for a 57yd FG in the iron bowl with literally EVERYTHING (NCG, SECCG) on the line?
Saban messed up big time IMO.
OT????? no FG kicker and the auburn defense was stuffing bama for the last several drives. OT didn't look to promising for bama
Going for FG????? in the past 40 years, only 4 attempts came up short and were returned for TD's. How many interceptions during that time period were returned for TDs
it was a safe call. Auburn found away to make a play out of it.
The bonehead play of the game I thought was when auburn went for it on 4th and what, 2???, on their own 35 or so. It was about 4 minutes in the 4th. I almost walked out of the house at that time thinking the game was over. But thats overlooked because bama didn't capitalize on it.

The biggest bonehead play of the game was Saban not kicking a FG from the 13yd line on 4th and 1
I wanted to see FSU Bama bc they are the 2 best teams. But Bama should not play for the championship regardless now IMO. If Ohio Fake loses then the winner of Auburn Mizzou should go.
FSU will obliterate Ohio. Ohio gave up 41 to Michigan and 25 to Illinois!!
Bama FSU would have been a great game. FSU Mizzou/ Auburn will at least be close. But maybe its best Ohio gets to get beatdown AGAIN, so the voters make sure they never get in again

Ding, Ding, Ding... and to answer Homer's response. Throw in the kid that attempted the 57yd fg to kick that one from the 13yd line.
Other bonehead things was why did Saban go away from the two back approach when Kenyon Drake was clearly hitting the holes faster, gaining more yards in the 2nd quarter than TJ Yeldon, who was recovering from a hurt ankle. That one I will never understand.
Either way, I'll give Coach Saban the benefit of the doubt and end with this game just wasn't meant to be won by the Tide.

Pea - You need to do a search for LSUFreek's newest installment from the weekend. You have a good sense of humor, so I think you will get a chuckle. I'd post it, but it is too large of a file.
Agreed-- I was muttering that the last 6 minutes of the game
The guy in my office who is a Bama grad said the same thing. He would rather lose the game in any way:
-Lose in OT
-100yd Pick 6 from a hail mary
ANYTHING than that....it will be remembered forever. Saban messed up, bottom line.
Also, Saban being the amazing coach he is HAD TO have seen that Gus M trotted out the return team, right? Watching the replay it is obvious that Gus never intended to attempt to block that kick!

Say what you want, but in the same situation you'd wish Jimbo TRIED to win the game.
Who would have thought that a 109 yard return was possible? The kicker could have pushed him OB. Anyone could have. Even a missed field goal SHOULD have flown out of the back of the end zone and not been returnable.
It wasn't a bad decision. It was bad luck - or good luck, depending which perspective you have.
It was a fluke.

Actually the Auburn player who returned the kick for the touchdown said he was placed back there by Malzone as a safety in case Bama faked the field goal.
I replayed it several times. From the returners perspective , Bama was on the right side of the field. Bama players did not move until the ball was almost caught. ( 11 players watching the ball). By then it was too late. Auburn players had peeled off to the left and were set up ready to decleat the few Bama players who finally got there. Looked like Bama had never practiced that.
Here's a question for the college football experts. The Auburn returner was running fortunately to his teams sideline. What if that was Bama's sideline and one of the scrubs jumped off the sideline and tackled the returner .
Can the refs count it as a TD?

That actually happened during a Bama game in the Cotton Bowl years ago except it was a running back who was tackled on a regular play from scrimmage. The player was awarded a touchdown.

I do, and I am not too biased to say it was a great gift.

two drives earlier he missed for the 16. If he had tried to kick and missed again you would be calling that a boneheaded play.

I don't know where you were in 2002 but OSU's 2013 season is very reminiscent of that season up to and including the college football fan base.

Thanks for the link, Freek has done better. He should have exploded Saban's head also.
