Gator fishing 8/26

Got 2 tags to fill so called up Toothy for the long drive to STA 3/4 west. His buddy Steve joined us for the hunt. We got there early to do some scouting. The new hours allow you to start hunting at 5pm which is nice. The gators were skiddish we threw some snag hooks at em but they evaded us.It was getting near dusk so we decided to throw out the RANCID hen Toothy rigged up..:puke...We waited for a bit and 2 gators showed up. The smaller one was gulping it down while the larger one was trying to claim his territory. Oh well he ate the bait so he was on the menu! I grabbed the rod and the fight was on.Some weeds got tangled so i went to clear them and then BAM! Something stung me? I was scared i got bit by a snake..Oh well we got the weeds cleared. Steve threw a snag hook on em and made it easier to get him in closer. Toothy manned the harpoon..He jabbed him and it was time for the bangstick. EXCEPT in the commotion and darkness i could not find it in the tall weeds..:facepalm I finally located it Toothy and Steve postioned him in to range. BOOM! he was done and didn't flinch after the shot. Nice clean kill. We did the necessary taping of the mouth and severed spinal cord attached the tag and put him in the canoe.



Nice lil 8fter! We scouted some more ,but by this time alot of people showed up and along with the bugs! We decided to wait on the other tag and call it a night.Had a blast Toothy and Steve!:applause

Nice work Pat and crew! FYI I attached an electralume light to my bangstick, just for that reason, TMU tends to lose things in the swamp...HAHA

Never hunted sta1... 3 does not have many access points due to thick cat tails..

What did you put in the stanky hen to catch him? Wooden peg? Can you use a hook? Nice looking lizzard by the way. Gonna be up in Kissimee on sat doin the same thing with hopefully the same results.

yup the wooden peg..Weird you can snatch hook them but not bait hook them...
