Picked up an old bass

Has a nice ding in it but that adds character. Good deal for $50 and it makes the kid happy for a while.

There should be a small cover somewhere most likely on the back side.
I'm sure you will need to replace the 9 volt battery.
The batt will drain out if the pickup switch is left on, or the cord is left plugged in.
Dead battery equals dead sound, thus active pickup.
both my basses came from the pawn shop (plus my six stringer.. come to think of it my drums are from a craigslist ad which turned out to be a pawn shop too lol) .. i picked up an ibanez TR in great shape for 70 bucks ... and.. my baby ... a schecter diamond series scorpion with the scorpion headstock (ive since turned it fretless) 160 bucks.... gotta love da pawn shop...
The action on the Peavey is outstanding, so smooth and easier to play.

No problem, I love the stuff. There are a hell of a lot of good reggae bands these days. Good to hear you may put something newer on the playlist.
Pawn shops are great but they do try to rip you off. All the guitars in this one are priced good. The cello they had was priced well too but he gets to use the one from school so no use buying that right now. Other stuff was overpriced like a Kenwood head unit that they wanted $10 less than retail for.
That schecter is cool. Bet the kid got a lot of compliments. What did you fill in the fret slots with?
well the plan was to fill the slots with thin but tight fitting shims plus glue then go over it with marine grade epoxy.. jaco style :grin
but it doesnt sound too bad the way it is and it plays just fine, as it is i get a really nice mwahh out of it.. you cant hear the notches on slides at all.. i know once the neck is epoxied itll give it a brighter mwah but this guitar i tune down to drop c .. i dont think i need the brightness for what i am playing so i might just leave it like this.. it sounds like an odd setup but a fretless bass with flatwounds tuned to drop c sounds like its coming from the bowels of hell
They've actually been sold under quite a few brand names...Ibanez and Yamaha come to mind and I'm pretty sure there's others
Oh, and fins4me,....Gene Simmons may be a great rock star, but he's a horrible example of a bassist. You need to expand your horizons beyond the teenage theater music that is Kiss.

Kiss is way overrated. I have no clue how they became so famous. They have less than a handful of decent tunes.
I'll be really happy if this can get him into punk and/or reggae/ska. He'd never play any punk or reggae on the guitar, just metal, rock and classical.
