Speaking of cognac

ParkerboyParkerboy Posts: 7,045 Admiral
I really like sipping on cognac especially in cold weather so I stooped at the liquor store and picked up a 750ml of Remy Martin and the clerk recommended a bottle of Hardy Noces d'Or. I must say the Hardy is excellent and while it is $50.00 a bottle more it is worth it.

Anyone else experienced the Hardy or have other recommendations other than the normal Hennessey, Martell, etc.?

You've listed some fine Cognacs, I'm a Grand Marnier guy and I also enjoy Frangelico.

I have learned to appreciate cognac over the years and the more I appreciate it the more the prices go up.:D. I recall when I thought the VSOP's were great and now I don't care for them but I am far, far away from the truly great ones.

They are good I will agree but I prefer cognac to sip.

Proper footwear required for cognac sipping.

Though cognac sipping in cool weather is something to be anticipated and enjoyed, I have a long tradition of drinking brandy Manhattans:

Two parts sweet vermouth and one part brandy over clear ice in a crystal whiskey glass (part of the presentation and ritual).

"addicted"? Perhaps? "to fine cognac"? Not necessarily.

"Gateway drugs" don't always lead to the snooty 'Charles Emerson Winchester' overpriced stuff. Alcohol is alcohol. Addicts could end up buried under empty Old Milwaukee cans? Or poisoned by pure grain alcohol.

Isn't cognac now the preferred booze of rappers?

Cognac is no more "snooty" than single malt scotch or single barrel bourbon or crown royal. And, I don't think I am concerned about being addicted to any alcohol since a bottle of cognac will last all winter and I have 4 beers in the refrigerator than have been there probably 6 months. I gave up heavy drinking probably 10 years ago.

You brought up "being addicted". Alcohol is alcohol, no matter if generic beer, boxed wine, bar brand booze, or the top shelf stuff.

When Hollywood movie cowboys start sauntering up to the bar & demanding cognac, instead of whiskey, it might no longer be "snooty".

On the other hand, cognac that costs $50 more than Remy Martin might always be "snooty"?

Uh, you know cowboys didn't truly straight whiskey very much. Most of the whiskies were home made and "doctored" to make them drinkable. Beer was much more drinkable.

BTW, It was a joke about addiction. Buy a sense of humor for God's sake.

Not so sure I'd agree that they're superior, a different taste palate is for sure. Personally, I don't care for bourbons or scotch no matter how good they are.

Snooty? How was your PBR at Sonny's tonight? :grin

The crap they used to serve out in the West in the early days would almost kill you, and some of it did.

Joke or no joke, your text clearly argues with yourself.

Movie cowboys never drank cognac & almost always asked for whiskey, w/o regard to brand, quality, or price. They only rarely asked for beer. Charles Emerson Winchester & swells like David Niven drank cognac. If you can't afford to "Buy a sense of humor" rent or borrow one "for God's sake".

Was given a bottle of Irish "single malt whiskey". "I believe" you guys can argue if "Cognac is no more "snooty" than" Bushmills?

Movie cowboys?? :rotflmao I'd bet they drank Cognac. :wink

Real cowboys, as Parkerboy stated, were more beer drinkers than whisky, for the reasons we both stated. But, you can continue to talk in the world of movie cowboys. :idiot

    He's all yours, Parker. :grin

Just goes to show that you can take something that is not even drinkable, put it into an oak barrel for a few years and it becomes nectar of the gods.
