Good info, like I said I've thrown a lot of stuff down here and just keep using what works!! Always looking for something new that looks good enough to eat! Snook down here are pressured and smart, that's why the big ones are few and far, the little ones get caught and its a learning experience. They don't get big biting ugly bait!!!
Mike Hakula Aqua Dream gold spoons are some of the best I have ever used, they have a waffled grid pattern that makes them different from the rest. This is my son Brandon holding a 28 inch Red landed on that spoon, jmo :Rockon
I like Mike Hakala's spoons as well .... but they're not all I use. The spoons I buy all have one thing in common and that's the ability to change out the hooks. Hakala, Barracuda, and a few others come rigged that way and since the spoon long outlasts the hook I want to be able to replace that hook over and over again.... I'll pass on spoons that have the hook soldered in place since they just don't last long enough.
I can't seem to get any cast distance off a 3/4 oz. spoon, I tried targeting redfish with them- but where I can usually toss a gulp 1/4oz jig w/ gulp 30-50yds, I wasn't getting any distance (maybe 15-20yds) --- is there a special technique to prevent wind interference? One would assume distance from the boat is advantageous- I was using a size 60 spinning reel, PFlueger Presidential XT and 7" Daiwa Procyon medium, 20lb braid.
Q: How much fishing equipment can a man have before his wife throws him out?
A: I do not know for sure; however, I believe that the experiment is almost complete!
Now don't laugh at me, but has anyone ever tried the ol' Dardevle spoon from Eppinger? I don't know if the hooks would be suitable for salt water but I sure have caught a lot of freshwater fish on them.
