8/28/2011 - Loran tower 70'-100'

We headed out of SLI early and used sabiki rigs around the markers to catch some live bait and headed out to 70' off of the loran tower. We drifted in a north easterly direction with a bait down about 30' and another on the surface. We also put one bait up on a kite just for kicks. The small sharks were plentiful with 7 on the day. We also landed one Bonito and one Large jack crevalle. We had one dolphin jump off of the hook in 75' and landed another in 90'. The dolphin were not huge, but they'll eat!!:) I'm happy about the dolphin, but I was looking to smoke a kingfish for dip.....oh well, next time! Good luck out there! Ahhh, kingfish dip...has been awhile for me too. Wonder where those bad boys went this summer?

you know what, i went out at least 3 different times this summer to target kingfish. but i only caught 3. odd, in past years you could go off the loran and slay them all day.

Try setting up at 120 and putting out a nice blue, sit back and wait. Landed a 22lb 45 inch King

With the west winds, the kings moved in close to the beach and chased the bait schools.

Thanks for the report. We were having the same problem this year with Kings until we started trolling the spread at about 60' on the way out and back in. Picked up 3 nice ones on the last 2 trips; Lovin' that fish dip!
