Spinning Combo Help

triplejstriplejs Posts: 209 Deckhand
Ok, so im looking for a set of good all around spinners for my boat. I will be getting 4, they will mostly be used for pitching baits to dolphin, live baiting for kings, macks and sails that come into the fishing area. I am looking at around the 150 mark. I originally wanted the new baitrunner 8000d but it has received mixed reviews. I also noticed the penn battle is well liked. keep in mind this is going to be an all around rig.

I have smaller reels for yellow tails and such, so these will be in the 20lbs class or maybe even going to braid.

Spheros 8000 for about $140 each might fit the bill. They're powerful, durable, not too expensive and fairly lightweight. I've got about 450yds of 30lbs braid on mine, they're rated for 160yds of 20lbs mono but you could probably get 180-200yds on if you spooled em tight.

    Good luck,
    Alex

Kings and macs n Sails - Id go W Cabo - GREAT drag and can really put the heat on a fish if needed!

I haven't used the 8000 before but the Shimano Stradic 8000 with two extra spools. 4 spools with 15-20lb mono and 2 with 30+ lb braid in case you want to tackle something bigger than you expected all of a sudden. You can pay $160 each for the FI's still NIB online.

Spheros are great reels. The 6000s will fill the bill for your app. Take a look at the Okuma Cedros they are awesome reels with superior drag to ANY of the others since they use washers on both sides of the spool. As for rods a 7' 15-30lb rod is great for braid apps. Okuma makes a cedros matching rod for thier reels. Eupro rods are awesome as well.

Ok so I looked at most reels. Saragosa, saltist, and sustains are a little over my budget. I really liked the battle but it was real heavy, like the cabo. Still looking at baitrunner d. Anyone know some good deals on the ones listed at too

i dont think the cabo is very heavy. i have the 40 and it is a great all around reel i just need a better rod for it.
