Toro...Toro...!!! Bulls a chargin again!! EM and crew whacken em after work 9-27-13

Well...here we go again......hit the river for a quickie afternoon trip to entertain one of my customers Bill who is in town along with my buddy Greg Jones. We hit the river about 5:30, tooled around with catching lady fish, croaker, and trout that were smashing bait I had witnessed earlier that day while at work...

After getting the stink on the boat, we headed across to the little jetty area sisters creek (east or west? north or south...but either way within sight...and barely had to get the boat on plane...

We set down four baits....mix of crab and cut baits...and within a few minutes we were on em!
We eneded up catching and releasing 15 bull reds to 30 or so pounds...lots of fast pased action for only fishing a few hours....best of all the bite went into the night darkness! Bait of choice seemed to be the fresh 1/2 crab but cut bait was holding its own too...

Tried some new circle hooks 8/0, but still had a few get gut hooked....wonder why? guess we should not be dead sticking the rods? or go with a bigger hook...not sure whats going on....

after the redfish wrangling...we headed to some dock lights to get some more trout for the grease....

All in all, it was a fantastic trip with a customer who has never caught a redfish yet.....not a bad way to break in a newbie!!

Tight lines and screaming reels!

Strange. Never had a gut hook with circle hooks on bulls. Just cut them off close and release..

Nice work guys. Even with circle hooks, Gut hooking is going to happen from time to time when using long leaders and placing rods in rod holders. In my experience, a regular circle hook (not octopus) snelled with line exiting the tip side of the eye gets the least gut hooked fish. To completely aviod gut hooking,
If placing in rod holder, we have to use only about a 8" leader but I assume we won't get as many bites.
If holding rod in hand, we can use a long leader but have to start reeling immediately after the bite.
These are just my opinions and experiences anyways.
