Thinking Bimini

tilemantileman Posts: 1,152 Officer
Never crossed before, and I'm trying to sort things out on how, and when, I should go. When would be a good month for good fishing ( bottom, and trolling for pelagics ) . Crossing would have to be made with seas in the 1-3 ', I'll be crossing in a 23' w/a and dont want to cross if any bigger seas if I dont have to. I and the boat can nav. in those but if I have the choise would rather not.

  • In a boat that size, your options are fading. Any time after about Oct 15, you cannot count on Ocean weather to be safe for a crossing. Of course we have periods in Jan and otherwise when a crossing is great but you have to carefully watch the weather.

Aside from those issues, actually any time you can get to Bimini is a good time to get to Bimini. Even on a bad day its better than most peoples definition of a good day! Bottom still good and some species getting better, Wahoo show up soon, late run of Dolphin possible now, etc

We made our first crossing this year to Bimini, 23CC. IMO, you need to be worried about the weather and not the fishing. It's probably done for you this year actually planning a trip in advance, you may be able to make it if you see a weather window and just take it on very short notice. I would also not go, and did not go, without buddy boats each way in that boat, and especially first time. Just my two cents.

And i would agree that any day in bimini is good. We didn't have particularly good fishing in June right after Sandy, but did not care!
