Grumpy old man

Went out for a dive today from John Loyd and on the way back kept to myself on the east side of the Intracostal the whole way back from the Port. as I was about 20 feet from the park entrance I had the SEALEGS basically run me into the rocks as he was leaning out the pilot house window all he could say is I HAVE THE RIGHT OF WAY he literally just drove his boat right at me because I was not flowing with the traffic. and was on his side of the canal 15 feet from the rocks. TRUE ****

was he coming towards you or behind? i thought that if he was behind, then you continue straight and he goes to the right or left of you.

if your going to post this BS comment after 2 posts you might want to go to another forum or travel the intercoastal near the area and see for your self the area has 300ft long boats traveling through it and they seem to navigate it with ease hes just a **** like you.

so you were driving on the wrong side on the channel and you are pissed at him??? Maybe I misunderstood.
  • bitshortbitshort Posts: 243 Deckhand
If you are familiar with the area you would know that the canal is 200 ft wide and there are boats going in all directions its not like Im complaining about the keystone canal or anything. Ive been navigating this are forever and I'm not the only boater that cruises the E side to keep out of the bigger boats way.

what does post count have to do with it?

where is the IWC 200' wide in that area?

was there another larger vessel (perhaps a cruise ship departing on a saturday afternoon) that was occupying the channel that made him move in to your wrong direction path?

I've known Kenny for years & he's not the kind of guy to run someone into the rocks.
  • bitshortbitshort Posts: 243 Deckhand
Nope just me so close to the rocks I could see the sergeant majors
  • copout@castaways[email protected] Posts: 5,779 Admiral
    any size to them?
  • bitshortbitshort Posts: 243 Deckhand
Alot smaller then the sealegs, listen I know that i was on the wrong side of the channel and if I was in the middle playing chicken with him I would understand his issue, but I was so close to the rocks and he had so much room in the channel I just thought as a licensed Capt. he would realize I was trying to stay out of his way and give him and all the other boats there space. Just seemed odd that he pushed the bow in my direction for no reason.

    fair enough.

was it him for sure? sometimes he has someone running the boat down the ICW to get hours for a license. not that it makes it any better.

I admittedly don't know anything about the ICW section you're speaking of, but I'm curious as to why hugging the wrong side of the channel results in "staying out of the way" any better than hugging the correct side of the channel.

If he was north bound and had to avoid any dangerous situation wouldn't he veer east? With you there it would make things more difficult, right?

The only reason I stay on that side is because the ramp we use is on the east side of the ICW theirs plenty of room in the area. and the coast guard wont allow you to close to the Docks where this cruise ships tether so its easier to be on the east.

The ICW is pretty wide like you said. There's no reason to run from Port Everglades to the John U Lloyd boat ramp on the wrong side of the ICW. The coast guard will only give you trouble if you're almost touching the cruise ships, but otherwise there's two very established lanes. Stay on the west side and make the left turn when you get to the ramp. Too many boats in that ICW to play around in.

560 ft wide to be exact.

I just happened across this and happen to be very familiar with the area. You can get **** close to those cruize ships before you have a problem, and the drift boats are constantly running up the middle in that section of the ICW. Answer here is I always run the W side of the ICW going South in that area, cruize ships or not. Only time you'll have trouble is if a big tug is motored up pushing one of those ships to dock. They move a lot of water and ina smaller vessel your gunna have to hit the E side. No reason to run the E side just because you going to JLloyd. My opinion of course.

I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale. Trust me, you are all a bunch of know it all ****. I'm one of you. You have to move away and be around nice people to realize what a whining, blaming, know it all piece of crap you really are. It's just So. FL. The culture teaches you to be self righteous and really only care about your own ego. I'm not saying this because I'm on the bottom either, cause I know that's what you people think. I'm sure I make more than your daddy. Just try to be genuinely nice to each other. Just try it.

I usually give the commercial guys space, they are out there daily and fishing for a living and as you said sometimes are grumpy... Plus I'm on a small boat.

PE can be quite a hassle as is. I must get pulled over 8 out of 10 trips on my way in.
