Why that compared to opening tailgate and using bed extender?

^ Harder to load, solo but better for longer trips w family ( ie luggage, duffel bags, etc ) You can close the tailgate!

I have bed extender and for JUST a fishing trip - its fine - But this ^ is a quality setup for longer trips w 2 maybe 3 yaks if you stack them well.....

Each serves a purpose. I found the overhead racks better for my needs. It is much easier driving in high traffic areas and I did not have to worry about parking space. Also, I found it was a good deterrent to those who might try to walk off with my kayaks.
