Is the park closure gonna affect us with the fishing?

So much for the areas I know with the park closed, it will be tough.

Well with the FFT event this past summer facing a tropical storm/hurricane prior to the event, many wanted an early call as to the status of the event. If the past is any indication of when to make the call to go, no go a formal event, we will wait until Thursday at 2PM to make an official call on an organized, sanctioned event.

More later. I will be waxing my bobbers tonight and watching a couple of Rick Murphy shows to figure out where the fish are. I along with many others are still in. The last time this happened was in 1995 and it lasted 4 days. It happened again a few months later in 1996 and the closure was for over 10 days. It is only Tuesday.

I will be part of a volunteer civilian patrol in the Park Friday and Saturday.
We will be watching for poachers, drug runners, human trafficers and others who view the government shutdown as an opportunity to conduct illegal activities.
Any violations will be photographed. We have learned from he Zimmerman case

We will look like common fishermen as our cover. VHF 72

Man, I thought my secret snook rig had'nt gotten out yet, your using the wrong bobber though, a snoopy works better and a sponge bob bobber is the bomb.

So what I am being told is that rangers will be out on our side of the park and will be ticketing with fines anyone they catch in the park not passing thru. As my boats are permitted, I will not try my luck in anyway until this is over. Curious to hear reports of those that do and get checked. I have no doubt port of the islands marina would love to have all yall. Ramp fee is $8, I know the manatee zone is rough on some though. Looking forward to seeing everyone so I for one vote keep it on, and just slide the fishing area west a bit, with the same captains meeting location and weigh in. If I can help anyone with the new area please get in touch. And pucker if I can help in anyway before hand please let me know.

And who will be monitoring that if they are more concerned with keeping people out. Drive it like you stole it!:driver:

FWC is state agency and flush w/ cash.
There are several joint ventures between the Park and local LE.
Wouldn't do it.Blowing a manatee zone is totally different than a trespass.

Remembering your youth as part of the Latin Kings? Please.

Oh and Greg, do you really want me to respond? I'm thinking not. You will remain in the very cheap seats.

Unfortunatly I am out as long as the GOV says it closed. If it opens by Friday night I will be there Saturday. Keep posting the updates because I am hoping it only lasts a few days.

Those who go anyway Good luck and drive it like you stole it!

Hmmm hopefully the fwc or Collier county don't accept your challenge. If so then rangers on the park boundary and state and county working POI area will make it like the Iron Curtain thru there. BTW, collier county has just had a new patrol boat built and will soon be working our waters. Not sure if they are gonna decal it or not. Good looking boat

The federal government doesn't own the Park. The feds are just stewards. The American people own the Park.

So, I'll fish it whenever I **** well please. This weekend being one of those times.

Not to mention that there ain't no "trespass" on unposted land except after a warning from an authorized person and a refusal of a demand to exit. I searched the CFR for federal exceptions to that and found none. The Secretary of Agriculture may have issued a "government shutdown" regulation, but I haven't seen one.

Just went to noaa.gov to get the marine forecast for this weekend ....

Due to the Federal government shutdown,
NOAA.gov and most associated web sites
    are unavailable.

Only web sites necessary to protect lives
    and property will be maintained.

    See Weather.gov for critical weather
information or contact USA.gov for more
    information about the shutdown.

    Un-phucking-believable

So if I understand this correctly; I can fish ENP until the man tells me to leave. If he gets me a second time I am fined for trespassing cause he told me so the first time.

All you Biatches that wanted "change", here it is.

Ignoring the larger issue of whether fishing in the Park during a government shutdown constitutes a trespass at all in the absence of a federal regulation (issued by the Sec'y of Agriculture) saying so, yes.

Nothing against the Park Rangers-- in fact, I like, admire, and truly appreciate those guys-- but I am willing to take one for the team to have the courts decide the larger issue. The arrogance of the federal government in thinking that it simply can bully the American people into submission just pisses me off.

I think Department of the Interior runs the Parks.

I'm not into shooting the messenger (park ranger). Not his fault or rule. Just doing his job.

The other park personnel, who work for low wages, are forced into unpaid leave and now may miss a mortgage/car payment because of government dysfunction.

It's only an inconvience to us.
Postpone and reup the Show Up for November.

Ladies and gentlemen, fellow anglers. You can put me in the scared column if you so chose, but we have discussed the situation and are going to postpone even with solid legal advise above from LiveFreeOrDie. An extremely close friend was in the park today out of Chokoloskee and his day ended at 10AM. He was deep in the backcountry after being asked to remove himself and fellow angler. The ranger was very nice, but would not have been if it happened again. I understand it is the American way to stand up to the government in the face of laws that do not make sense all the time.

We do not have many rules in the events that we try to organize for fun, but the one MAIN rule, is that we abide by the park laws and regulations. This is something that we cannot compromise on at all at any time if we want to have these in the future and in other parts of the park as we have been for the last dozen years. I know there is a large area of the 10K to fish, but the burden and complications are mounting against the event happening. We also represent a community that wants to continue to enjoy this resource in the face of mounting opposition to access.

I will not be fishing this weekend. We looked at this happening in July with the FFT and the possibility of being blown out by a hurricane which fortunately did not happed as now, we are realizing the complications of rescheduling the event. We cannot afford to have the event be associated with knowingly and openly being associated with violating the park laws for the future appears to be bright for this event. So as the sponsors donations are stacked in my office, we would like to know of potentially acceptable recycle dates knowing that we could be in this situation for an extended period of time, we are proposing:

    November 2, 2013

    November 9, 2013

Declare. We take no pleasure in this and let the flaming begin.
