A 25-year-old woman who was watching two young girls left them at the Muvico at CityPlace so she could go drinking at the nearby club Blue Martini, according to police.
Christen Maloney, of West Palm Beach, is accused of two counts of child abuse and was released from the Palm Beach County jail on Thursday after posting $6,000 bond.
A movie theater manager found the two girls, ages 7 and 8, “visibly scared and crying” after they were left alone at a 10:30 p.m. showing of the movie “Turbo.” The girls said that Maloney told them she was going to the bathroom and would “be right back” but never returned.
When a search of all the bathrooms in the theater did not turn up Maloney, police were called. More than an hour after police arrived, a security guard located Maloney, who was attempting to leave a parking garage with a friend.
Maloney stepped out of the car and asked an officer, “What’s wrong? I just went to get popcorn.”
