If you think our river is polluted, you can only imagine how bad the waters off of brazil are!

Most of the coastal cities pump raw sewage from the toilet to the ocean directly.

The joke during my layovers in rio was .. When you flush your toilet, wait 5 minutes and then watch our beach and you can say a final farewell.

Moral of the story is unless its caught way offshore, I wouldn't recommend consumption.

    Cheers

My other pilot friend (Delta) tells me the same thing...

The real problem is, as with nearly all things in America, Washington DC Legislation... We are legislated to force "incentives" the very thing we claim to be against (child labor, pollution of the environment, healthcare coverage) but allowing China and India to import their ****ty products, built with horrible labor and environmental standards...

Combine that, with the FACT, that his legislation has FORCED American companies to do business abroad, or go bankrupt, we have a horrible jobs market, and thus, Americans are FORCED to buy the very products that cost them their jobs...

    • In 2000, the US had a budget surplus, in 2009, it ran a deficit of $1.4T, 10% of the economy. 2010, 2011, 2012, and like 2013 and 2014 will be the same, or worse.
    • According to the IMF, America’s GDP has fallen from 32% of world product in 2001 to 24% in 2010, that is a 21% drop in JUST 10 years!
    • Starting in the 1980’s and accelerating with NAFTA and GATT, the US set out to meld its economy with those of Europe and Japan and create a global economy.
    • What happened was not only predictable, but in fact was predicted. With the abolition of Tariffs (NAFTA, GATT, WTO etc) the US guarantees goods made in foreign countries would enter America FREE OF CHARGE, thus, manufactures began to shut down plants.
    • Foreign companies, though allowed to enter the US market 100% FREE OF CHARGE, do not have to abide by the same laws American companies do, such as OSHA, minimum wage, healthcare, environmental regulations, AND THEY HAVE NO UNIONS.
    • America’s decline since 2000 represents a far greater loss in a far shorter time than the power shift in Europe that occurred from the Napoleonic Wars to WW II
    • America abandoned economic nationalism for globalism and cast aside fiscal prudence for partisan bidding for voting blocs. We ballooned our welfare state to rival that of socialist Europe, and invited the world to come and partake at the feast, while we launched a crusade for democracy that has tied America down to two decade long wars.
    • The US Heavy Industry has largely disappeared, having moved to foreign countries, which has deeply cut into our ability to be independent in times of peril. In short, our economic independence is history….
    • The historical record is clear, nations rise on economic nationalism, and the descend on Free Trade, budget deficits, and debt.
