Doc and I planed to head out for some grouper this week and today seemed to be the best day. My neighbors Tom and Laura Howell had their son visiting from Houston with his family. I invited their son to join us for the day to see him get some grouper time. We shoved off at 6:45 heading to a 40' area into a stiff west breeze. Not to rough but a bit lumpy and Doc took it easy on us for the ride. 1st stop and the3 bite was on.... A pair of red grouper and a nice gag came over the gunnels before the bite slowed. In true summer fashion we moved about locally and picked a good fish here and there until the next bite started. A few more stops all within 3 -4 miles filled our limit including another pair of gags one being a nice middleweight and a few red grouper pushing the 8 - 10 lb range. We never got over 47 feet all day and really didn't feel it was necessary with a good bite and some large red grouper and gags where we were. Threadfins and cut bait did the trick for us today on Carolina reef rigs. It is always a blast putting folks unfamiliar with grouper on a good grouper bite. Ryan was smiles all day, a quick study and a pleasure to fish with. Thanks for letting us borrow him Tom and Laura. Doc as always got us there and back safely and put up with my insolence all day:grin. I think I even saw him smile a couple times.

Ryans first keeper grouper a fat red

A small 24" but it went home with us

A double on 27" fatties

Long gag of the day goes to Ryan (Note the slender build to this fish)

Yes Doc catchs fish too....a fine fat red.
