I went today to investigate the area where I always harvest chanterelle mushrooms and to my delight they were in full swing. I got probably five or six pounds:
We will be eating like royalty for a while.
Very interesting... I'm not bold enough. I guess if you know of one crazy looking species that's readily identifiable then I'd give it shot, but it's always been too intimidating for me. Probably due in large part to having heard my mom tell a story about her forestry professor in college that picked the wrong ones and croaked after consumption.
Ahh, chanterells, one of the tastiest of mushrooms. Don't know how you keep them, but I've had great luck drying them on an old screen door suspended from the ceiling in my garage. Just rehydrate with water, or white wine before using. I store them in paper bags in a cool place, and they would last longer if I didn't use them so fast.
