A Tampa man is accused of killing his mother's dog, then cooking part of the dog and storing the rest in the freezer.

Thomas E. Huggins, 25, was arrested Friday morning and charged with animal cruelty in the death of the family dog, which was between 5 and 6 months old.

According to police, Huggins strangled the dog, a pitbull mix named Bandit, at 8 a.m. Thursday. After the dog was dead, police said Huggins cut the dog into quarters and stored it in the freezer for future meals.

A family member called police at 11 p.m. and when officers arrived, they met with Huggins, his sister and his mother, who was the dog's owner. Huggin's mother, Margie, took the officer inside the house and showed him a pair of full ribs on the stove that appeared to be fully cooked. Police said Huggins had eaten some of the dog's ribs before they arrived.

She then showed the officer the quartered parts of her dog that had been stored in the freezer, the report said. Then she took the officer outside and showed him the dog's head, hide and insides.

Huggin's sister, Monica, told officers that she went to the house after her mother called, and when she got there, Huggins told her he had killed the dog and cooked it because "they needed something to eat," the police report said.

Police said Huggin's sister told them that the suspect has "not been right" since "something happened" while he smoked marijuana a few years ago. She said he has also been going to church for a few years but that he has taken it to an extreme, "go[ing] on and on about religion and the Lord telling him to do things," the report said.

When police interviewed Huggins, he said his sister was trying to "drag his name through the dirt." He said the dog had become aggressive toward him, and that he he killed, skinned and cleaned the dog, just as his mother had taught him to do with squirrels and rabbits.

Huggins was taken into custody. Bond has been set at $2,000. Animal control officers responded and took possession of the dog's remains.

They were in for a treat. Boiled dog! A bit greasy I'll admit, but the flavor can be down right delicate.

Five or six month old actually probably most ideal.

We are talking social construction here.Plenty of other five or six month old creatures go to market and it's all good.

Still, the images here are sad. My native North Miami went from all white to predominant Haitian- the 'ol local grocery store ended up selling human hair for strange purposes.Oh,wait,'dem Haitian be saying I be socially constructin' the hair thang.......
I figured out the impending change to the area at the very beginning of the shift, and got out. Now it's a study.

Let me get in here before this goes too far. I coached and taught this young man in high school. He is FAR from being a "thug"! He is college educated and was working toward being a minister. I do not agree with what he has done, and that he is in jail, with the story making it this far is very sad. There is no excuse but what I can tell you is that his family has always been very poor and they live on the fringe where cultural understanding/acceptance is neither recognized nor important.

I have seen this before he was on the right track at one time ...Then the drugs got to him

Now Mom is scared and the only way to feel safe is get him "arrested" so the system can take care of him ...

I agree probably NOT a THUG per se gotta use something as "zinger" in the tag line LOL and for that I apologize ...

Lack of "cultural understanding/acceptance" This is where you get resentment to Authority and hence Thugs/Cop Killers and Drug Dealers the only way to survive is a life of crime . I have s friend from Waterbury CT.
we disagree on everything LOL she says all us Conservative "White Guys" should bring these disenfranchised youths into the workplace and put them on the "Gravy Train" without paying any Dues !!! I THINK NOT !!!

Many cultures eat dogs and cats for that matter. I couldn't do it. Well I guess it would depend on how hungry I was.

On the contrary. I'm almost positive it was mom's secret recipe that was gonna' give those ribs flavor. It's not about being a "thug" or on "drugs". It's cultural just like not eating cows in India, etc. I'm not defending it or saying it's ok. However, this is going to be one of "those" threads , trolls will troll and folks farthest removed from any real knowledge of how/why this stuff happens will be throwing stones. Can't blame em', but atleast the truth and reality of the situation has been posted by someone that knows. Everyone else can carry on and have your fun with it now...
