6-29 Homosassa deep drift

NOT. We were gonna give the deep drift for trout a try today, but the weather and a 16' flats boat changed our mind. Instead, my buddy Garry and I decided to launch at Masons, and explore some new to us territory. We dodged some storms, caught some short trout, a couple nice jacks, a bunch of ladyfish, and spooked a few decent reds. I also lost two decent snook 7-8 lbs. Got off the water just before the rain really hit. Not a particularly productive day, but we added tp our knowledge of the area, and fished instead of honey do's around the house.

We loaded the boat just ahead of the rain. Drove over to Shelly's, so my buddy could get some hogfish. The sky opened up while we were inside, we stood at the back door for about 10 minutes or so watching the folks coming into MacReas get hosed. I felt bad for them, but it was still funny. :rotflmao

I got soaked today but I was already wet anyways. It sure was a good day for exploring.

i love those exploring trips. Sounds like you avoided those hurricane band type rains too.

Good call. It is choppy out there with a 15 mph blow. Usually you will end up drifting too fast.

If the weather is decent, I'm gonna take my step son and try again early Thursday morning, and then catch a few scallops before heading in to grill up 4th of July dinner.
