Doc and I planed to take a couple friends offshore grouper fishing today. The weather was suspect but we headed out to 60' to dig up some red grouper. That was the digging part the dodging part was dodging thunderstorms that popped up all around us. We only spent a couple hours out in 60' before we decided it would be better to have a 25 mile run in with bad conditions rater than 35 miles. We worked the 40' area for another couple hours and called it a day. 6 red grouper came home with us along with a few grunt. Several gags were tossed back in waiting for the 1st of July.We ended up successfully avoiding any bad thunderstorms and got a little wet on the run in. The bite was really on but the conditions had us choose safety knowing they will be there another day. Still another great day on the water with Doc, Don and Bill. Lots of laughs and lots of fish (most short) made for a entertaining day.

I live and fish on the east coast and will be in CR Monday for the Gags also. I have tons of numbers just wondering if you guys are seeing the Gags in shallower water?
Thanks for the report!
There are plenty around in 10 foot plus but the real big boys are deeper and thinning out....although we have been avoiding them for the most part especially out deeper.

I may not always agree with what you say,
but I will always respect your right to be wrong!
You don't have to run out too far to get to 10 feet of water do you? I am still gunning for a grouper out of my Gheenoe.
Never was much of a wind, just the normal chop in the channel in the area for about 2 miles around Deadman Key from the outgoing tide opposing an onshore breeze. I went early and was only planning on staying a couple of hours anyway. I'm normally back to the landing before noon.

I haven't been offshore in that kind of stuff in over 30 years. That's when I learned my lesson about storms forming anywhere over the water with a summertime west wind in the AM. But Kyle is a bad influence you know. :crossed
The winds weren't bad except for right around a couple of the storms. But they kept forming up right over us and we had to move more than 5 miles to get away only to have others form up.
Looks like the weather is going stay crappy until later next week.
