I'm having a little trouble pinning down the heron ID in pic 7. Bill does not look like reddish egret but I don't think tri-color heron either. Any ID help appreciated.
There is NO WAY that bird is a juvi reddish egret. Look at the beak on the bird it looks identical to a great blue heron. The whole bird looks like GBH except for the color of it. Maybe a heron from another country or some sort of color morph of our GBH here. Here is a picture of a reddish. Not even close the bird in #6. Great pics by the way!!!!
The bill color was and remains a concern for me. The bill is not right for a GBH either though as they are typically dark over light. I have seen a few reddish photos that had a dark bill as well. I figured it could be an adolescent thing, starts black and then grows out lighter as the bird ages.
I don't think I got a full body pic unfortnately which would make it easier to pin this down.
Thanks Redsgurl. It was a canned hunt of sorts since it was the local zoo but at least the majority of birds were out in the open and free to come and go.
Chuck,
your bird is defintely an immature redish egret. i'm at work right now so i do not have access to my heron\egret file......
i photographed 2 down at the chandeluer islands last year, one was just a litle farther along but had the black beak....
i believe you can google some images and find one that matches your bird perfectly.....
here is a link i found....

I think this is my favorite of the trip.
Capybara's are vicious and should not be let alone with small children. In-laws are another matter.............
