Recently read an article that said in 2002 (still shooting a lot of film, but digital mixed in) that a National Geographic photographer on a 1 week assignment shot on the average 29,000 photos for an article that published (on average) 10-14 photos per article. i don't feel so bad about my fail rate after reading that!

back in the film days the pro photogs had a saying...."1 in 36 was a good day"....
i found that to be a pretty accurate assessment....

Funny. At the Orlando Sentinel, back during film days, you were given a 36 exposure roll and expected to cover several events with it. Obviously not long ones. When I shot Weddings with Medium Format, you always knew how much it was costing you out of your profit, for each shutter click. Now all I do is Little League and my travel/wildlife photos. I will probably be hanging up my Little League gig after this next season.

I only take jobs as they come by on the occasion, I have all but stopped promoting. Just finished one for the Museum though. Used my cell to pin down some locations angles and times. Then brought the ole Nikon out.
But yeah... things will continue to change, and I've been whining about it for years. All the processes that where enigmatic and costly to all but the pros are available for the cost of software. Of course if you bring something special to the job, your unique eye is your only saving grace.

Though I did shoot 15,000 images on my Nikons in April. Personal record.
