Thieves!

Yesterday I got a text from my neighbor saying that my other neighbor's boat got hit.
Ran outside to check my new-to-me boat and

2006 225 opti's 155 hrs

Looked inside and

Simrad CX44 - sterio, gages etc

Ouch!
Luckily I have insurance. Barely. Policy is only a week old.

So as I'm processing all the expected emotions: shock - anger - grief - sorrow...

My question is:
Does anybody have any experience with claims with BoatUS?
What can I expect in terms of making me whole? And when?
Should I expect a fight?
Should I seek out an insurance advocate? Does one even exist?

Thanks in advance to anyone with any experience in this. I can't even remember ever having any insurance claim on anything.

FYI this is in Jupiter Farms cops said I was number 5. I heard more like 9.
Palm Beach Country Estates had like a dozen recently.
And, they're not caught yet.

    ****. Sorry to hear that.

Buy a surveillance system. Makes sticking the scum that did it to you a bit easier. Cover all corners and shadows with motion lights and cameras.

Jupiter Farms, wow, thats rough. We almost bought there last year instead of here in Jensen Beach. I would have never thought this would happen in that area.

Sorry for you loss, seems like they are scouting nicer neighborhoods. Lucky im off the train tracks hidden by a trailer park(a border of cactus, bougainvillaea, robellini palms, big dogs and a surveillance system helps).

A year and half ago, I had one lower unit stolen on my Twin Suzuki 150's ;and all my electronics.

Boat US was AWESOME!!!! Quick and Easy.

They will ask you for any receipts and if you don't have them, no problem, they will work with you.

Very quick to get a check. The longest time spent was waiting for the electronics... the lower unit was in stock.

If you want, PM me and I would be happy to answer any questions.

It sucks and I expressed each and every emotion you did.

    So sorry.

    Cheers

Make sure you get a police report. On a one week old policy they are going to suspect fraud and that the stuff was stolen before they wrote the policy. I'd be ready with any proof to the contrary.

That sux. Wow in the farms. Great way to get yourself shot. Another note, keeping your motors trimmed down makes steeling the lower units **** near impossible.

Awful. I assume these guys cant get away too long between the cops and home defense. Hope justice is served.

So what is a lower unit worth? And where are they selling these things? Overseas?

    Good luck resolving it.

Sorry to hear this happened to ya, hopefully insurance acts quick and you get back out on the water,... Well once the weather breaks.

Another note, keeping your motors trimmed down makes steeling the lower units **** near impossible.

I had that thought somewhere along the way, then realized that it makes no difference as the thief simply has to turn on the battery and put the motor down.

However, if you put the motor all the way down, then back up to a building, wall, or other hard unmovable object... Then they won't be able to get it, unless they move your whole rig

and turn the manual screws so they can't trim up. Make it a pain for them.
Or get the locking nuts... of course too late.

Man, very sorry to hear that... When I still lived in St. Pete, thieves were a big problem... I mounted a motion sensor light on my dock that came on and shined on a sign that I had made that said "smile, you're on a camera"... I didn't actually have a camera, but I never had a single thing stolen, not even a gaff... I wanted to install a cam, to see how many potential thieves I warded off and to see the look on their faces when they read a sign... LOL

Good luck getting everything back together...

Well if your neighbors boat was hit to and many other in the area they shouldn't give you too much fuss plus your boat looks to be in great shape what would you stand to benefit from going through the hassle of taking off your lower units and most Likely pulling your gauges and cutting them. We just had our 6x12 equipment trailer stolen Sunday and my buddies sun roof pryed almost open I'm in the acreage to almost like the farms god help the sob that I catch in my drive way better hope he sees me coming before my muzzle flashes!!!

Thanks Guys for all the moral support. Love this community. It really does help.

Eric - Boat us contacted me already. They seem very professional.
Intrepid377 - Called the cops right away. Have report in hand. The week old policy was the first thing I brought up to the adjuster. I can prove it happened when it did and that the boat was whole when they wrote the policy. I have a family and ins fraud = extended vacation from all I care about. I was still sweating bullets though thinking they would look for a back door. So far they have been great.
Kevinwwings2 - Sorry friend. They were trimmed down switch off.
zzzzzzsplash - replacement cost is 3-4k ea. No idea where they sell this stuff. They got a lot though. A ton of boats been getting hit. These guys are either very good or very lucky. Beware to all! Cops said mostly lower units Yami and mercs. And higher end electronics.
Capt Tater - There will be lock nuts on the new ones. Day late dollar short. Lesson learned.
Mango - I'm moving my boat to Laggerheads. That's why I got the insurance, they require it. :-). Yes. I'm a lucky man.
wpbth - Winterhawk block. I believe 13 maybe more. Detective said I was number 5. Think they are CYA. And as many in the PBC Estates. Somebody has a lot of goods to fence.
Derek Arsua - Thanks the boat was beautiful. I'll get her whole soon. And yes with my neighbor the same day it's pretty cut and clear. If the trend continues the acherage is the logical next zone. Be hyper vigilant.

Step the security gang. This ain't over yet.

You could always put a piece of chain running between the two lower units up an over in front of the engines make a full circle know what I mean? I know it's a hassle but it will prevent another insurance claim

    This is excellent advice!!!!!!!!!

I'm glad that Boat US is taking care of you. I expect no less.. they are wonderful!

I am a huge supporter of Law Enforcement and appreciate the job they do HOWEVER I just don't understand why the local police/sheriff departments can't set up a sting.. to put out a boat as bait and start to catch and PROSECUTE these scumbags.

The deputies that came out to file a report for me know that these scumbags are from South Florida (Hialeah to be exact) and I asked "if you know who they are and where they are from, why can't you do anything about it?" I was told that they don't have the resources.

Actually it only slightly slows the scumbags down. They us a 18v cutoff saw to eliminate the chain.

they don't have resources for a sting and then to defend it as setting up the perps. Also they (not the police but above) don't really care since your loss is covered by insurance. it's not like the tri counties have the highest insurance rates or anything? It only steals about $1000/yr from us with larger boats with insurance.

Camera surveillance systems are cheap these days. I would install one if I lived in the farms.
