I will be camping at Long Point Campground next weekend with the family.
Just curious of what or anything is biting around there? Will be mostly wade fishing possible kayaks.
Would love to put my two boys on some fish.
I caught a 9lb trout in a cove just north of the camp ground two weeks ago and lost a over the slot snook right by the ramp. Lots of nice trout around target them.
We had a guy camping next to us in April who fished from his site. He did get some trash fish, but he also got a few trout each day. If you can get across the channel to the islands infront of LP, you can wade around them and find nice trout, as well. Used live shrimp on a popping cork.
If you get the yaks, go to the area just south of LP and work the shore line.

We went to Long Point in March for our 1st time. I didn't really care for the campground as there is hardly any trees and the campsites are right on top of each other. I could hear our next door camper snoring all night long. Any ways if u get a site on the water u can pull ur boat up right in front of ur site. We fished around the islands right in front of the campground. We caught flounder, reds, and trout. We also saw some snook but they were not biting. For bait every morning, we made some homemade chum and threw it out right in front of our camp site and threw the cast net and loaded up on white bait. We also did some gigging at night around the islands and got some flounder and lots of sheepshead.
That's a great report thanks hopefully that still holds up this time of year.
Now just getting worried if the weather will hold out.
We do have a water site so that should be helpful and we are going to bring the yacks.
thanks again everyone keep the advice coming and I will post how we did once we get back.

Weekend is starting to look better.....
Those reports represent late winter(remember how cold March was?) early spring fishing.
What i would recommend for the summer pattern fishery is..
Spend as much time as you need to secure good bait....*BUT* Do not overcrowd your baitwell as this will kill alot of bait in warm summer water.
There will be some topwater action early and late (grey light) and maybe after the afternoon rains...but mid day will be a struggle without good bait.
There are many roads to travel
Many things to do.

If you don't bring yaks....your chances hover near zero......
