Newfound Harbor area - 5/30

lovely weather we're havin lately aint it? its hard to get out on the water when you walk out your door in inland cocoa and get slapped in the face by a 20mph gust.. but against better judgement i went anyhow, didnt wanna sit it out two days in a row .. i got on the water later than usual due to my indecision.. first went out to the cape canaveral hospital, to try to duck out of the wind behind the parking garage but it was still rippin out there.. real big chop on the water.. headed to another spot where it didnt look much different, and debated on whether to even bother launching.. about the time i decided the hell with it, im gonna launch, the sky opened up.. told myself if it didnt stop in 10 minutes i was outta there, but thankfully it lightened up! threw the canoe in and off i went...

found a nice sheltered shoreline which was holding a little bit of bait and started working it with a top pup.. the water here is exceptionally clean, as compared to what most other people seem to be finding.. but no grass, not a single stitch of it anywhere.. i guess ya cant have it all lol.. about 5 minutes in my plug gets absolutely thrashed.. picked up this little dude .. a tick over 23"

the way he clobbered that plug and ran i expected much bigger.. got me real close to the mangroves a few times but he eventually saw things my way.. snapped a quick pic and sent him on his way and kept at it .. 4 or 5 casts later produced another little guy... a hair under 21"

at this point the sun was getting a bit higher and the action dropped off.. until i got the hit of a lifetime!!!

hahaha... hungry lil critter.. found some more slack water and fished it nice and slow, some deeper water mangrove areas, hoping for a snook to make the slam.. wasnt to be though... im great at getting 2/3rds of a slam.. just cant seal the deal with the snook.. ah well... about 9am it started gettin real nasty looking so i decided to head back to the launch.. this proved to be a complete clusterfrick... to get back to the truck i had to travel right into the weather.. and that was some STIFF wind .. every time i started making headway the wind would catch my nose and just about 180 me, puttin me right back where i started.. began thinking ****, i might not make it back for a while.. and while all this was going on, it decided to open up on me ... so in a torrential downpour i finally managed to make it across, soaking wet from head to toe... not a bad day, considering the slop weather we've been havin.. hopefully tomorrow will be better!
