Sarasota Bay- Weekend Report

Well, its been a while since I posted a report about catching. Highlights of the weekend were mangrove snapper, seabass and redfish.

The docks around bird key and the docks north of siesta key held alot of mangrove snapper. Gulp Shrimp in New Penny and Cal Jigs in 1/16 with shrimp were most productive for me. We caught mangroves to 14" and came home with a bunch of nice fillet, a few docks in particular. Nice to catch them in the bay and save on gas! The same spots held the seabass and the gulp shrimp were much more effective at hooking these pesky little critters. Most were small/short, but a few seabass around 12" made for good ceviche. We also caught a 13" flounder, sheepshead, and small redfish around bird key. No trout.

The redfish bite also was pretty hot. The east side of the bay towards siesta key produced three reds to 24". All on Gulp Shrimp on the dropping tide under docks and shaded areas. All released, but its good to finally catch a few again. Its been a while.

Hope everyone had some good catching over memorial day weekend!
