yup...
a good camera and the appropriate lens would have helped you a lot...
the composition is good but you may have been able to recompose and get some other images as well...

if you make the leap to a dslr there are several members here that will help you speed up your learning curve...

if you have an Iphone they do make an attachement to use SLR lenses... which has me upset as an android user

Rusty, just expense a nice Nikon D7100 and a f/4 300mm lens and you will be golden.
