Great Fishing in 10k Grandslam Sunday 2/24

Took a friend out today to do some fishing in the park. I havent been south of lulu in a while so I wanted to see if my spots are holding fish still. Tide was really low so we started outside on an oyster bar I like to fish. The fish were there and hungry. We got a bunch if pomps all about an inch short except one, thats also where we picked up quite a few trout and kept 2 around 20". After about an hour n a half we left to net bait. Looked around for five min.s and in one throw we had more than enough for our day. Off we went south of Indian to the first shoreline and worked for an hour pucking up a 26.5" red and friend coming unglued at the boat on a 25" red. Waay down to the next shoreline where we had about 30 min.s to fish or wed be stuck and we casted on 2 pieces of structure and each produced 2 fish no less than 24" in Bout 15 min.s so wed bagged one and headed inside for some crazy snook action.Click image for larger version.

ID:	73499we had plenty of water catching the top of the out. Chummed up and it took about 15 min.s before they started blowin up. We git about 20 snook with some real nice ones in there that I had to jump in twice to get em outa the trees. My buddy landed a real nice red in this spot as well. So we both had our slams and I have been seeing the tarpon around my dock so I shot for my grandslam wich I havent gotten in a while so I was looking forward to getin it done. As I put my baits in the pen a few got away and sure enough just as planned 2 poons started eating them. I put on a fat pilchard pitched it out and in seconds it was fish on! Landed and released to complete my grandslam. lots of fish caught today and I had another fun day out on the water with great company. Hopefully tmrws trip will go as well for my clients. Tear em up!Click image for larger version.

    Tight work!

On a side note I was down in Choko a few weeks ago. I had a slam for the day already, and my chick just needed a snook for hers. She had caught a few reds and trouts already. I was gonna have her toss a live shrimp to the marina snook but decided against it. It kinda felt like cheating. Guess I should have! LOL

Still trying for a grand slam! One of these days...

Lol cheating?! That doesnt make sense, you still gota land em. So your saying if you went down 2 miles from the dock you saw the fish to fish other docks and caught a fish its ok because you got lucky and found one after fishing 100 docks. Or what about driving to a certain bay to sight fish when theyv been there for 2 weeks and catching fish every day, cheating? (its the same thing). The tarpon the past week have been hanging at my dock and I knew they would be there, I know how to catch em and can actually land em. (thats the trick) I hit 4 spots all day and I knew what species was gona be where and drove over 20 miles to get some of em.(cause I knew theyd be there, cheating?)its the knowing when and where and why. Passing up catchable fish you can see? doesnt make sense to me. People get praised for dock lite fishing (shooting fish in a barrel you askme) I do it every chance I can. And if their at your back door more power to ya. But I must admit sometimes I do get so good it sure does feel like cheating.;):D:D:p tear em up!

Whoa chill man, lol I didnt mean to imply you were cheating. Not a bit! That's kick azz you can catch tarpon off your dock! And I agree, especially with tarpon, hooking them isnt even half the battle! Landing them is!

We were staying at Island Park in Choko and from time to time they go throw shrimp to feed the resident snook. They also have a sign up that says please release marina snook.
I felt like we would have been cheating if we used these particular pet snook with the sole purpose to complete a slam. That's all man. Sorry if I struck a nerve!

Cool brother. I'm no purist. Hell normally I'd shoot fish in a barrel if that's where I found them.

Been enjoying your reports lately. Keep tearing em up bud.

You know it's interesting how things get interpreted. I laughed at chuddy's first post as he did...I can see his point about how he'd feel, heck he didn't have to hunt them down. I feel the same way which for me is the drawback of bottom fishing public reefs. Yeah I still gotta feel the bite and reel 'em in but....

Then I laughed at Joe's next post (after thinking once again Joe was on the fish in his first post) because he makes good sense about the irony of catching fish around another dock as long as it's not his own, lol! And yeah Joe "knew" where the fish would be but that's because he's hunted them down before...no public number, rather skill and experience.

I actually thought Chuddy' was giving respect to Joe's expertise, and Joe was encouraging Chuddy by saying "hey, catch 'em up wherever you find them!"

Unfortunately the only fish around my dock are small sheepies and mullet... is there such a thing as the Dockside Double?

Yeah its always hard to interpret things on the interweb. I meant well and I'm sure Joe did too.

I've been fishing that area since I was a kid, and anyone who can catch fish on a consistent basis
like Joe, knows what they know because of the time and effort put in.

And there it is. Fishing success can't be explained any better than that.
